The 2nd Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens

The 2nd Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens

The Boys & Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens hosted their 2nd annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner for the Mar Vista Gardens community. This event was made possible thanks to volunteers, sponsors and a generous donation from Ralphs, who donated 95% of the food for this occasion. Over 50 volunteers served more than 400 meals to families residing at the Mar Vista Gardens public housing community in West Los Angeles.

Along with the dinner, there was a performance by the Mar Vista Gardens Boys & Girls ClubStep Club. The dance team consists of boys and girls ranging in age from 6 to 17 years old. “The residents really look forward to this performance. We have a lot of parents who come out not just for the dinner, but to watch the kids perform. This is very touching and great to see”, said Jesus Gonzalez, Branch Director of Boys & Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens.

Since 2013, The Boys & Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens has been providing on-site education and recreational programs. The Boys & Girls Club Mar Vista Gardens Branch, the Jack and Cindy Jones Youth Center is open to children between the ages of 6-18 years old, as well as Mar Vista Gardens Residents during adult program hours.

The MVG Branch was the 1st place winner for National Torch Club Project, 1st place winner for BGCA Digital Arts Festival (video) and the Regional Winner for BGCA Digital Arts Festival (animation). The branch also has a Soccer league, T-ball and Little League, Basketball league, Rocket Engineering Club, Step Team, homework assistance, tutoring, art, technology department and a games room.
