October 8, 2014 - The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles helped celebrate the grand opening of the new Star Apartments in downtown Los Angeles. Skid Row’s new Star Apartments consist of 102 pre-fabricated modular apartments in a sleek and well-designed building developed by the Skid Row Housing Trust. The new Star Apartments provide, "healthy and sustainable homes with supportive services to disabled men and women experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles" (www.Skidrow.org
The building features collaborative partnerships with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) and on-site supportive services including mental health, primary healthcare and substance abuse services for the residents. Other services include a health clinic that serves residents and surrounding communities and on-site activities such as exercising and gardening.
HACLA provides residents of the Star Apartments with subsidized rent vouchers that allows residents to pay up to 30% of their income. HACLA has provided 100 project based housing choice vouchers to the residents of the new Star Apartments and plans to continue its partnership in order to combat homelessness in Los Angeles.
*100% of the new Star Apartment residents were referred by DHS and have experienced homelessness
