Feed The Children and PepsiCo, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), provided 800 families with boxes filled with food and personal care items. The event, hosted by the on-site Boys & Girls Clubhouse, took place at the Nickerson Gardens public housing development in Watts.
“Part of our values at PepsiCo is the performance with a purpose. It is very important to us to be engaged with local partners, get involved with the communities and to help support those who are in need,” said Carlo Ohanian, Zone Director with Frito-Lay.
“We are proud to partner with Feed the Children and PepsiCo to provide such important events as this one to help our neighbors and our community. I want to thank the wonderful volunteers that make this possible. It takes all of us together to defeat hunger,” said Axel Diaz, Development Coordinator for Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles.
Over 75 volunteers from Feed the Children, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, the Dream Center, PepsiCo, Frito-Lay, Boys & Girls Club and other organizations helped set up the event and participated in the distribution. Representatives from Senator Steve Bradford’s and Assemblymember Mike Gipson’s offices awarded Certificates of Recognition to all the partners and thanked them for their dedication and support to the Watts community.
Each qualifying family received the following items:
- One 25-pound box of nonperishable food items
- One 10-pound box of personal-care items
- One box of AVON products
- Frito-Lay Baked & Popped Variety Pack
- Aquafina Water
- Life Original Cereal
- Quaker Oatmeal
- Quaker Chewy Granola Bars
- Boxed and canned goods from Ralph's/Food 4 Less
