Chairperson Beatriz Olvera Stotzer

Beatriz Olvera Stotzer is the CEO of NEWCapital, a real estate development   firm in Los Angeles. She has overseen the development of residential, commercial and public school developments.

Ms. Stotzer is a nationally recognized business leader and family advocate. Finding creative economic solutions that work for families and poverty’s worst victims – women and children – is her passion. She is one of the founders and current Board President of New Economics for Women (NEW), a Los Angeles Latina not-for-profit agency engaged in housing and economic development. Due to her vision and skills, she leveraged an initial $97,000 grant into its existing success of more than $170 million in investments for the Los Angeles area. NEW’s development provide innovative housing and economic services that meet the needs of working Latinas and their families. Fannie Mae acclaimed these housing developments as “models for the nation” and recently recognized NEW as 1 of 10 exceptional community development corporations in the nation. The only Latina organization to be so recognized.

Stotzer has previously held several management positions for the City of Los Angeles including a term at the Department of Water and Power. She worked closely with community, government and business groups, developing crucial initiatives and issues related to work force diversity and business development programs. Ms. Stotzer also served as the first Latina to hold the position of Vice President for Government and Community Relations for KCET where she managed the largest PBS community outreach division. She received several awards for pioneering community and educational outreach programs.

Ms. Stotzer is currently the President of the Commission for Children, Youth and their Family for the City of Los Angeles. Her other volunteer activities include serving as a member of the Children’s Planning Council for Los Angeles County and Board member for Inner city Arts, California Trust for Public Schools and Goodwill Industries of Southern California. She is a founding board member of the esteemed California Women’s Law Center, as well as Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE). She has also had the distinguished honor of serving on President Bill Clinton’s Council on Sustainable Development.

Beatriz Stotzer is a graduate of the prestigious CORO Public Affairs Program and was awarded the coveted Crystal Eagle for her demonstrated contributions to the community and the remarkable “impact she has made to the public good.” Fannie Mae Foundation has named Ms. Stotzer James A. Johnson Community Fellow for her significant contribution to providing decent and affordable housing in urban neighborhoods.
 
Stotzer holds a masters degree and is a graduate of the Harvard University Senior Executive Program. She grew up in Boyle Heights (East Los Angeles). Stotzer and her husband Samuel have two sons and live in Sherman Oaks, CA.
