Public Housing Youth Attend Tony Hawk's Stand Up for Skateparks Event |
![]()
Ten youth from Estrada Courts and Pico Gardens public housing communities participated in this year’s Stand Up for Skateparks event in Beverly Hills on October 7. HACLA President and CEO Douglas Guthrie and other HACLA staff joined the kids on this event.
This marked the third year for public housing youth from HACLA sites who participated in the event. This event serves as a chance for our youngest residents to meet positive role models. This year youth received skateboards, skate shoes, hats, and back packs. They met with NBA All Stars AC Green and Bill Walton, Mixed Martial Arts Champion Chuck Liddell and other celebrities. Youth also skateborded, played games and saw a concert
The event was sponsored by Nixon, Sweetwater, Mondrian, Triumph, Taylor Guitars, Bravo, and DUB . The Tony Hawk Foundation seeks to foster lasting improvements in society, with an emphasis on supporting and empowering youth. Through special events, grants, and technical assistance, the Foundation supports recreational programs with a focus on the creation of public skateboard parks in low-income communities. The Foundation favors programs that clearly demonstrate that funds received will produce tangible, ongoing, positive results.
