HACLA helps house 100 homeless men and women: Grand Opening of Abbey Apartments (watch video) |
The Abbey Apartments in downtown Los Angeles is a product and a testament to the strength of partnership in an effort to house chronic homeless men and women. The 113 unit permanent supportive housing facility provides housing coupled with onsite services.
The Housing Authority contributed 100 vouchers through the Shelter Plus Care Program. The rental subsidy means 100 individuals now have a place to call home while receiving medical care and case management services.
"Providing housing for homeless individuals means more than giving them a roof over their heads, often, it is a road to self-sufficiency and self-empowerment. The Housing Authority is proud to be a partner in this effort,” said Rudolf C. Montiel, President and CEO of HACLA.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa who spoke at the event, commended all the partners including the Housing Authority. The Apartments are 100% occupied. The Abbey was developed, and is owned and operated by Skid Row Housing Trust. The partners include the Los Angeles Housing Department, Corporation for Supportive Housing, Enterprise Community Investment, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, among others.
