A Peace March organized by long time Watts Community Activist Betty Day and Pastor Michael L. Rowles with the Wrecking Crew for Christ Holiness Church brought out community members who took a firm stand against the recent violence in the area. Participants included Housing Authority staff, Mayor’s Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) team, the Los Angeles Police Department as well as other civic leaders.
Five men have been shot in six weeks. It is something that has brought serious concern and anger among those who have worked hard to fight crime in Watts. The March started at 112th and Avalon and went through Nickerson Gardens, Imperial Courts and Jordan Downs public housing developments.
