Jordan Downs Redevelopment highlighted at the ULI TOD Summit

HACL A Commissioner Tunua Thrash and HACLA Development Services Director Larry Goins participated in the Urban Land Institute’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Summit on June 4. Commissioner Thrash highlighted HACLA’s effort to redevelop Jordan Downs public housing in Watts.  Ms. Thrash talked about the Technical Assistance Panel (TAP)findings; a group of real estate and urban planning experts provided HACLA with an evaluation of specific development and land use proposals to consider along the Century Blvd.  The group also assessed and validated the TOD strategy HACLA envisions in its current Master Plan along with evaluating the potential growth issues including retail options along Century Blvd.

Development Director Larry Goins addressed the importance of linking transportation to jobs and housing.  Mr. Goins specifically addressed the 103rd Street Blue Line Station and its connections to the Jordan Downs Community and surrounding neighborhoods as well as the issue of extending Century Boulevard.

The Jordan Downs redevelopment project  goal is to create a vibrant urban village that offers quality housing, access to quality community amenities, transit connections and a human capital plan to increase the quality of life for the residents.
