National Night Out Day

The National Night Out (NNO) is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). This year, the nation will come together on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, to increase public awareness about crime and police-community partnership.

Jordan Downs public housing site is participating in this year’s National Night Out. Residents, JD CAC members and representatives from the community, including HACLA staff, will go to the South East Division Police Station to participate in the festivities and promote safety in their neighborhoods. One of the major components of Jordan Downs redevelopment is providing a safe and secure environment for the residents, and this will serve as a great opportunity to further that goal.

National Night Out is designed to:
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation.

NATW is a nonprofit, crime prevention organization which works in cooperation with crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Since 1981, NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide. NATW's network has grown to include over 6,500 crime, drug and violence prevention organizations.
