Honoring excellence in the affordable housing industry and recognizing individual agency performance
Amidst budget cuts and uncertain futures, our nation's housing authorities continue to provide assistance to those most in need, keeping families together and building stronger communities for everyone. We're proud to spotlight some of the exceptional work that PHAs have accomplished over the past year.
2012 Pioneer in Housing, Honorable Mention (Large Agency)
Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles
The
Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles has taken a leadership role in addressing homelessness through innovative programs to extend Section 8 vouchers to the chronically homeless, a population that can be one of the most challenging to serve. HACLA has also provided regional leadership in reducing barriers to access for the homeless and for ex-offenders.
Using a multi-faceted, collaborative approach to ending homelessness in Los Angeles, HACLA worked with many public and private nonprofit partners locally, within its jurisdiction, but also on a regional basis. Its "continuum" portfolio approach provides housing resources to serve homeless individuals with widely varied supportive housing needs. This pioneering effort has committed more than 12,000 units for the homeless across all the programs administered by the HACLA.
For its invaluable leadership in the efforts to end chronic homelessness, NMA is pleased to recognize the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles with a 2012 Pioneer in Housing, Honorable Mention.
