Commissioner Margarita C. Garr

Margarita C Garr was appointed to serve as a Commissioner on HACLA’s Board in May of 2008. She brings with her excellent skills in financial planning and new business development. Ms. Garr has over 10 years of experience in the business of finance and has turned poor performing operations into profitable centers.

Currently Ms. Garr is a Loan Consultant for Washington Mutual Home Loans where she specializes in residential purchases, refinances and custom construction loans. She has developed partnerships with various for-profit, non-profit and faith-based organizations to cultivate business opportunities. Prior to this, she was a partner at Garr Construction Company where she planned and conceived business opportunities, wrote publicity and marketing materials, collaborated with city inspectors among many other building, construction management duties.

Margarita C. Garr is a graduate of Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA where she majored in Speech Pathology with a minor in Spanish. She is active in the community and is the President of Los Angeles Chapter for the Urban Financial Services Coalition. Programs such as Credit Awareness Day in local high schools, 100 Homes in 100 Days, a live broadcast on KJLH, Small Business Technology Summit and Senior Empowerment Luncheon fall under her leadership. She is also a member of The Black Women’s Network, The Salvadorian Chamber of Commerce, the Sub Finance Committee to LAMBOC, Leon and Mattie Garr Foundation, African American Red Cross Advisory Board.

Margarita C. Garr’s current appointment term will end in June 2013. She resides in Council District Eight.
