HACLA Joins United Way’s 11th Annual HomeWalk 2017

posted on

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles participated in United Way Greater Los Angeles’ 11th Annual HomeWalk in an effort to help end homelessness. Over 10,000 people gathered at Grand Park on November 18 to take part in the 5K family run and walk to raise awareness and funds for county’s homeless individuals and families.

HACLA’s All-Star team consisted of 65 members including Doug Guthrie, HACLA’s President and CEO, senior staff, family members and volunteers. HACLA Commissioner Daniel Tenenbaum, along with his wife and daughter showed their support by walking together with the All-Star team.

HACLA exceeded its goal of $3,000 and raised $5,606 with the support of 66 non-participant donations. HACLA’s fundraising amount was also matched by the Hilton Foundation, helping HACLA raise over $10,000 for this effort. “HACLA’s spirit in the commitment to ending homelessness shined as bright as our neon colored t-shirts to bring additional awareness towards helping others,” said Martin Peery, Director of Public Housing and one of the co-leads of the HACLA All-Star team.
