The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles’ Educational Tour and Training program organized a fishing trip for public housing youth on October 24. Twenty seven youth participated in this exciting, fun and educational activity.
Youth, ages 10-13, from Rancho San Pedro, Nickerson Gardens, Avalon Gardens, Jordan Downs, William Mead, Rose Hills, Imperial Courts and Mar Vista Gardens developments had a unique experience. They were onboard Betty-O with Captain Mike in charge.
Every youth caught a fish which they took home for dinner. This was the first time most of the youth went on a fishing trip. In addition to having a great time, they learned about the sport of fishing, marine life, and teamwork.
In the last two months, HACLA’s Educational Tour and Training series has organized trips to the Getty Museum, Museum of Tolerance, California Science Center, Griffith Park Observatory, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. HACLA regularly schedules activities as such to enrich the lives of youth and provide educational and productive experiences.
