As participants of the Public Housing Program, every household is required to complete an annual reexamination during which rent is determined based on the family’s annual income. Earned and unearned income for all household members will be adjusted based on deductions and allowances set forth by HUD. In addition to housing, Public Housing residents have access to services and programs such as education development, employment training and placement, and recreational services provided by in-house staff or community partners. All public housing locations have a public elementary school immediately adjacent to or within a short walk. In addition, each location has a Resident Advisory Council (RAC) elected by residents to represent each site in policy decisions and other matters to HACLA administration as well as to organize community events and activities.
