On Wednesday, February 23, the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District announced grant awards totaling over $26 million for park development, completing the first-ever cycle of three Measure A competitive grant programs. HACLA received funding for two public housing sites: Nickerson Gardens and Rancho San Pedro.
With help from Measure A, HACLA will transform and update the Nickerson Gardens Courtyard at the Nickerson Gardens public housing community to create a more environmentally friendly, vibrant, and healthy community. The redevelopment of the outdoor spaces at Nickerson Gardens is envisioned as part of a larger renewal in the programmable and community spaces within Nickerson Gardens and is coupled with a philanthropic investment in the Nickerson playground and the pending solicitation of new program partners for the gym facility in an upcoming Request for Proposal.
In partnership with the Port of Los Angeles, HACLA will transform and activate the outdoor spaces at Harbor Boulevard Parkway. Harbor Boulevard Parkway is nearby HACLA’s Rancho San Pedro Development, and the improvements will help make the community more environmentally friendly, vibrant, and conducive to healthy living. The redevelopment of the outdoor spaces at Harbor Boulevard Parkway is envisioned as part of the greater renewal of the San Pedro community.
