On Wednesday, September 2, 2020 the community was invited to a “1,000 Backpack Giveaway” at the Watts Empowerment Center at Imperial Courts. Many partners came together to make this event hosted by RedEye a success. As children prepare for back-to-school virtual learning, the community continues to rally together to ensure that students have the supplies and materials they need to be successful.

Backpacks were stuffed to the brim with school supplies, including crayons, folders, clipboards and more. Free books were also available! Officers from the Community Safety Partnership (CSP) and volunteers passed out supplies and played games with the children in attendance.  There was also a food truck and a foosball table!

The spirit of the day was celebratory for all and the excitement heightened to continue learning this Fall.
