The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles joined United Way’s 10th Anniversary HomeWalk, an annual 5K family run and walk fundraiser to end homelessness in L.A. County. Approximately 12,000 people gathered in Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles to walk for the cause, raising over $1 million. These funds will go toward helping the county’s 47,000 homeless residents.

With 70 employees, team HACLA raised over $5,000, surpassing their goal by 4%, which the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation matched, along with all funds over $5,000 raised during HomeWalk’s campaign. HACLA Commissioner Daniel Tenenbaum and his family comprised a group that were the top group fundraisers while Thanhle Nguyen was the top individual employee fundraiser.

Speakers at the opening ceremony included Elise Buik, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Los Angeles; L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas; City Council President Herb Wesson; City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson; Cinny Kennard from the Annenberg Foundation; Peter Laugharn and Steve Hilton of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation; and former LA Rams Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson. David Ono of ABC7 News hosted the opening ceremony and announced the beginning of the walk.

Following the main event, participants visited company booths, ate from food trucks, and danced to live music provided by a DJ. Since it started a decade ago, Homewalk has raised a total of $6.5 million to support homeless individuals.
